Carthage High School junior Clayton Elliott has qualified to compete in the UIL State Lincoln-Douglas Debate Tournament, which will be held May 19-20 at the University of Texas at Austin.
Elliott earned his spot at the state level following a strong showing at the regional tournament, where he advanced through multiple rounds of competition to place third in a very competitive region and punch his ticket to the state tournament.
CHS Debate Coach Julissa DeJulian praised Elliottās commitment, stating, āClayton is one of the most disciplined and driven students Iāve ever coached. He puts in the work, day in and day out, and this accomplishment is a direct result of that. Iām proud of him, and I know heāll hold his own at state.ā
Elliott will represent Carthage High School alongside top qualifiers from across Texas during the two-day tournament hosted by the University Interscholastic League. The event brings together elite student competitors from across the state.
